Hilliard

The City of Hilliard is a community of 28,000 residents located just south of Dublin in the west section of Columbus. It is approximately 15 minutes from downtown, accessible from I-70 and I-270.

Hilliard originated during the 1850s when John Reed Hilliard purchased ten acres of land between the Scioto River and Big Darby Creek. It was platted in 1853 and for approximately 100 years grew around the railroad routes Piqua and Indian Railroad station.

In the 1950s Hilliard built three large residential subdivisions and a decade later connected to the Columbus regional sewer system. When the I-270 Outerbelt was completed in the 1980s Hilliard experienced another population growth.

The current median age of Hilliard residents is 34.8 years. The average resident is married, owns their own home and has minor-age children. More than half of the city possesses an Associate’s degree or higher and the median household income in $85,000.
