Worthington
Worthington is located in the northern section of metropolitan Columbus, at the intersection of State Route 23 and State Route 161.
The City of Worthington was planned in New England by the Scioto Company, a group of 38 men from Connecticut and Massachusetts formed to buy land west of the Allegheny Mountains. The Scioto Company purchased 16,000 acres of land and the first families arrived in Worthington in 1803. As of the 1830 census there were 910 persons living in Worthington.
Worthington experienced a boom in the post-war decades between 1950 and 1970. That time was a period of new subdivision construction and the population grew from 2,128 to more than 15,000.
Worthington has one of central Ohio’s most well-respected school systems and a widely-recognized library system. The city’s “Old Worthington” downtown area is home to shops and restaurants, and each year hosts several festivals and markets.
